Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to common questions about ABIA's accreditation seals, GVC certification, and how our standards-based model works.

What is ABIA?

ABIA (American Board for International Accreditation) is an independent, non-governmental accreditation body. We certify vocational training providers, technology companies and applications, and individual professionals against internationally recognized standards, so employers, learners, and partners can trust what they're looking at.

What's the difference between ABIA's seals and GVC?

Our institutional seals (Education Excellence, WebTech Certified, AppAdvantage) accredit organizations — training institutes, companies, and applications. GVC (Global Vocational Certification) certifies individual people, based on their own personal, job-ready competency, independent of any employer.

Is ABIA accredited by ISO, or does it follow ISO standards?

ABIA is not accredited by ISO, and ISO does not issue accreditation through ABIA. Rather, ABIA's own seals are built on the principles of recognized ISO standards (such as ISO 21001, ISO 29993, ISO 17024, and ISO 25010) as quality benchmarks. ABIA is the certifying body; ISO standards inform what we check.

Are ABIA certifications the same as a university degree?

No. ABIA certifications and diplomas are Professional and Vocational Qualifications. They are non-academic in nature and are not intended to replace, substitute, or equate to university degrees such as a Bachelor's or Master's.

How is WebTech Certified different from AppAdvantage Seal?

WebTech Certified accredits a web development business — the company, agency, or freelance practice — across its overall practices. AppAdvantage Seal accredits a specific application or product. If you're certifying your business, choose WebTech Certified; if you're certifying one product, choose AppAdvantage.

What is NCDT, and how does it relate to ABIA?

NCDT (the National Council for Development & Training) is a legally registered Egyptian cooperative society and ABIA's sole authorized agent for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region. NCDT gives ABIA a direct, on-the-ground presence for regional accreditation and training partnerships in that region.

Can I get an ABIA certification based on my university coursework?

Yes, in some cases. If you've completed relevant academic coursework — for example, a university degree specialized in Marketing — ABIA can evaluate that background as evidence of subject-matter competency and issue a corresponding ABIA Professional Certification in that specialization. This does not replace or upgrade your existing degree; it's a separate, internationally recognized professional certification.

What if I want an actual vocational degree, not just a certification?

ABIA itself does not grant degrees — only certifications. If you want an actual Diploma, Bachelor's, or Master's-level vocational or professional degree, Luminary International University, an institution accredited by ABIA, offers these directly.

How do I verify someone's ABIA certification?

Every ABIA-issued seal and GVC certificate carries a unique serial number. Use our free certificate verification tool to confirm a certificate is genuine, current, and actually issued by ABIA.

How long does accreditation or certification take?

Timelines vary by seal or track, depending on the size of your organization or the complexity of the competency being assessed. The best way to get an accurate timeline for your specific situation is to request a free consultation.

Does ABIA offer training courses directly?

For GVC, ABIA provides the curriculum directly, and trainees study it at their own pace before requesting the certification exam. For our institutional seals, ABIA does not deliver training itself — organizations bring their own existing programs to be independently assessed against our standards.

Professional and vocational, not academic. ABIA certifications and diplomas are Professional and Vocational Qualifications that validate workforce competency and technical skills. They are non-academic in nature and are not intended to replace, substitute, or equate to university degrees. Because ABIA operates as an independent, non-governmental standard-setting body for professional and vocational credentials — not as a degree-granting academic institution — ABIA does not require accreditation from another accrediting body to certify at this level.
